Line CY-AL
CYM Materiales designs and manufactures equipment for cleaning, surface preparation and restoration using light abrasive projection by compressed air. The process uses sodium bicarbonate as the abrasive — crystalline particles that dissolve in water at the end of treatment leaving no contaminating residues. Unlike conventional shot blasting, light abrasive blasting does not etch or deform delicate surfaces such as aluminium, stainless steel, marble, brick, glass, plastics and composite materials.
The process is carried out in a single step, with no need to degrease the surface beforehand: the alkaline nature of bicarbonate dissolves oils and greases during projection. The abrasive is not recoverable — which guarantees that the result is always optimal and free from cross-contamination risk — and, being a food ingredient, it complies with the safety requirements of the food industry. The system produces no sparks, making it suitable for use in refineries, petrochemical plants and grain elevators.
CYM Materiales manufactures the CY70AL light abrasive blast pot: a specialised version of the CY line designed for the projection of sodium bicarbonate, glass beads and other low-density abrasives. The equipment enables professional cleaning, paint stripping, heritage surface restoration and delicate industrial treatments with high-quality results, without damaging the underlying surface.
Applications
CYM light abrasive blasting equipment adapts to a wide range of industries and surfaces. Compatibility with sodium bicarbonate, glass beads and other low-density abrasives allows configuring the exact process for each application — from monument restoration to industrial cleaning in environments with contamination restrictions.

Topics
Soda blasting with sodium bicarbonate combines cleaning efficiency with total respect for the treated surface. Its physical and chemical properties set it apart from any other abrasive surface preparation method.
| PROPERTY | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|
| Toxicity | Non-toxic by inhalation, skin contact or ingestion — classified as a food ingredient |
| Irritation | Non-irritant to eyes or skin — reduces PPE requirements compared to conventional shot blasting |
| Etching effect | Produces no etching effect on fragile surfaces: glass, aluminium, stainless steel and plastics |
| Abrasive recovery | Non-recoverable abrasive — guarantees optimal results without cross-contamination risk between cycles |
| Water compatibility | Compatible with cold or hot water under pressure as a complement to the process |
| Spare parts | Uses standard compressed air spare parts and accessories available from stock — low wear |
