How does pulse-jet cleaning work?
INDUSTRIAL FILTRATION
The system that regenerates the filter without stopping production
It is a brief burst of compressed air in the opposite direction to the airflow, which shakes the filter and dislodges the accumulated dust layer, dropping it into the hopper. It happens automatically while the collector keeps working, without stopping the process.
The cycle, step by step
During normal operation the dust deposits on the outer face of the filter media and forms a layer (cake) that steadily increases the resistance to airflow. At set intervals, a valve fires a short high-pressure pulse of compressed air into the filter; the shock wave dislodges the dust cake, which falls by gravity into the collection hopper. The whole cycle lasts a fraction of a second per row of filters.
Why it matters
This system regenerates the media without taking the unit out of service: the collector cleans some filters while the rest keep capturing, so airflow and pressure stay stable in continuous production. It replaced the old methods of mechanical shaking or manual cleaning, which forced the machine to stop.
What good cleaning depends on
It needs dry, clean compressed air (moisture cakes the dust instead of releasing it), an appropriate pulse pressure and frequency, and —ideally— a differential-pressure controller that triggers cleaning on demand according to the filter's actual loading, rather than only on a timer. A poorly set pulse cleans too little (saturated filter) or too much (wears the media out early)."
CONCLUSION
What makes continuous operation possible
Pulse cleaning is what lets a dry collector run continuously. Keeping the air dry and the pulse well tuned is what makes the filter last and the airflow hold.
