Why control humidity before painting?
Dew point, flash rust and why freshly blasted steel will not wait
Because a freshly blasted surface is chemically active, and if ambient humidity is high or the steel is below the dew point, moisture condenses on the part —invisibly— before the paint arrives. That condensation causes flash rust and ruins adhesion: the coating may look fine and fail months later by under-film corrosion. Controlling humidity is what guarantees the paint actually bonds to the steel.
Freshly blasted steel rusts fast
Blasting removes mill scale and rust, leaving a clean, reactive surface without its natural protective layer. In high humidity, that surface develops flash rust within hours. Painting over that rust means painting over a contaminant: the paint system does not sit on steel, but on a layer of rust that flakes away.
The dew point is the key variable
The rule of practice is to keep the surface temperature at least 3 °C above the dew point during blasting and painting. Below that margin, moisture condenses on the part even if it looks dry to the eye. Measuring air temperature, relative humidity and surface temperature is what tells you whether it is safe to paint or you have to wait.
Invisible moisture, visible failure later
The problem is that moisture cannot be seen at the moment of painting. A film applied over condensation or flash rust traps moisture underneath, and the result appears later as blistering, loss of adhesion and premature corrosion —exactly what the coating was meant to prevent—. The failure is not the paint's: it is the conditions it was applied in.

Controlling humidity before painting is not an optional precaution: it is what separates a coating that lasts from one that fails early. Freshly blasted steel has a limited time window, and that window depends directly on ambient humidity.
