Coil spring and leaf spring shot peening

Fatigue treatment with special made-to-measure machines
CYM Materiales designs and manufactures custom-engineered shot peening machines for coil springs and leaf springs, developed to meet the specific requirements of each project. Unlike conventional shot blasting, shot peening is a controlled process of inducing compressive residual stresses on the surface of elastic components, with the goal of significantly increasing fatigue resistance and service life.
The coil spring shot peening machine processes automotive, railway and agricultural suspension springs in a continuous process: springs advance on parallel rollers that simultaneously spin each spring on its own axis while feeding it forward, ensuring uniform 360° coverage across the entire coil surface in a single pass. The pusher chain with variable frequency drive allows precise regulation of feed speed and, with it, the peening intensity.
For leaf springs, CYM Materiales offers two variants depending on the required process: the shot peening machine with rubber belt conveyor for unloaded leaf springs, and the stress peening machine — shot peening under tension — which is the automotive and railway industry standard for high-demand suspension components. In stress peening, leaf springs are mounted in tensioning fixtures under hydraulic load reproducing in-service conditions during blasting, maximizing the compressive residual stresses induced in critical zones.
Applications
Uses and shot blasting processes
Continuous process for automotive, railway and agricultural suspension springs. Springs advance on parallel rollers combining linear feed with rotation on the spring's own axis, ensuring 360° coverage in a single pass.

- Up to 800 springs/hour — 8.5 m/min.
- 2 or more blast wheels per project.
- Variable frequency drive on pusher chain.
- Exit integrable into customer production line.

LEAF SPRING SHOT PEENING — RUBBER BELT
- Rubber belt conveyor with variable frequency drive
- Unloaded leaf springs — standard process
- 2 blast wheels for car springs (thin gauge)
- 3 blast wheels for truck/railway springs (thick gauge)
- Maximum spring width: 250 mm

STRESS PEENING — UNDER TENSION
- Leaf springs in tensioning fixtures under hydraulic load
- Reproduces in-service conditions during blasting
- Maximizes compressive residual stresses in critical zones
- 2 blast wheels car springs — 3 blast wheels truck springs
- Up to 2 springs per fixture (widths ≤ 90 mm)

HYDRAULIC PRESS SYSTEM
- Loading press at entry: mounts springs in tensioning fixtures
- Unloading press at exit: detensions and releases blasted springs
- External empty fixture return belt between presses
- Fixture feed speed: 6 m/min (range 1.5 to 8 m/min)
- Parallel roller conveyor with variable frequency drive
