TUN 13x17 spinner hanger shot blast tunnel with eight 40 HP blast wheels for iron castings
This video shows a CYM TUN 13x17 shot blast tunnel with eight 40 HP blast wheels and parts hanging on hooks, designed to remove sand from and clean castings. It is the machine that processes Victoria cast iron cookware at the Mecánicos Unidos plant in Itagüí, Colombia.
The overhead conveyor carries 14 hooks rated for up to 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) each, which enter the cabinet two at a time. Inside, each hook spins on its axis and stops at three positions in front of the blast wheels, so the blast reaches the whole part. Parts can be up to 1.3 m (51 in) in diameter and 1.7 m (67 in) high.
The machine runs G40 steel grit, which cleans fast but wears equipment much more than steel shot. That is why the cabinet has a double lining, with a manganese steel base and high-chrome plates, and the blast wheels have double walls. Each part family has its own recipe on the HMI, which sets the blast wheel speed, the abrasive load and the blast direction. Dust is captured by a CART 36 C collector.
In 2025 the tunnel was processing 43 gross metric tons a day, according to Andrés Mejía Cardona, owner and CEO of Mecánicos Unidos.
