How does CYM shot blast its cast parts?
SPECIAL STEEL FOUNDRY
The surface finishing we do with our own machines
The short answer: every cast part from CYM is shot blasted before it ships. It is not a cosmetic finish — it is part of quality control, and it is done in-house, with machines of our own manufacture.
The part comes out of the mold covered in sand and mill scale. In a steel foundry it is best to blast right after shakeout, before cutting the risers: this removes the adhered sand —which is abrasive and would damage the cutting tools— and everything that follows starts on a clean, homogeneous metal surface, ready to inspect, machine or coat. (The technical detail of the process is in our article on shot blasting cast parts.)
What sets CYM apart is that it casts and also builds its own shot blasting machines. In its foundry it has a tumble belt machine —for small, bulk parts cleaned by tumbling— and a spinner hanger machine —for medium and large parts that are hung—, so each part is blasted in the machine that suits it. It is the same process CYM masters as an equipment manufacturer, applied in-house to its own parts.
FINISHED AND CONTROLLED
Blasting is part of quality control
Blasting does not stand alone: together with composition control, hardness and per-heat testing, it is part of the verification of every part under ISO 9001:2015. The part we ship is clean, inspected and ready for the next step.
